Anthony Park Coubrough

Anthony Park Coubrough, born 1810, was the second son of John Coubrough and Euphemia Stewart Park, and the great-grandson of John Coubrough and Jonet Buchanan. In about 1843, Anthony bought the Blanefield Printworks and ran it successfully until his death in 1883, though his son Anthony Sykes later took over the main operations. The elder Anthony was regarded by many in his community as something of a philanthropist, enlarging the local school and building a community centre being numbered among his good deeds. The family eventually owned two large houses: Blanefield, which did duty as a small hotel for some time in the 1960's before being demolished to make way for an apartment block in the early 1970's; and Parklea, which is believed to be still standing.
