| Robert (b. 1820) Coubrough
Line
Robert Coubrough was a son of John Coubrough and Catherine Andrew. John
was the older brother of Matt Coubrough (b 1805), who in turn was the
father of James Coubrough and the grandfather of Matt (b 1854).
Thus Robert was a first cousin of the James Coubrough who married Annie
MacDonald. Robert was married twice: first, when he was about 20 years
old, to Margaret Clark MacDonald, with whom he had 4 children. Margaret
died when her youngest child was about 2 or 3 years old, and about two
years after that, Robert remarried. His second wife, Mary Sandilands, was
a young widow with a small daughter of her own. Robert and Mary had three
more children before Robert died in 1855, at the age of 35.
John MacDonald Coubrough was the second son from Robert's first
marriage, and David was the only survivor of the three children from the
second marriage. John moved to England sometime before 1870 and married
and English girl, Ann Inwood, with whom he had 5 children. David married
in Scotland but in about 1912, he packed up his wife, Mary S. McKay Smith,
and all 8 of their surviving children and moved to Canada. They settled
near Montreal, Quebec, but some of the children later
moved to other parts of Canada and to the US.
